Obituary for Joseph R. Pacheco II

July 9, 1965 - October 23, 2019
East Syracuse, New York | Age 54

A much loved husband, father and friend, Joseph R. Pacheco II, 54, of East Syracuse, NY, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, October 23 at 4:57 pm with his loving family and close friends at his side.

As everyone knows, Joe has been battling heart and lung challenges for many years. He successfully beat the Hodgkin's Lymphoma he was diagnosed with in 1996. The LVAD he received in 2015 was a significant event in helping him fight the congestive heart failure he was diagnosed with in 2007 which was a result of the cancer treatments. In recent years, his lung damage, another result of the cancer treatments, became a greater challenge to his health. Four weeks ago, Joe experienced an inter cranial hemorrhage and was admitted to Strong Memorial hospital in Rochester. As you can imagine, such an event and the subsequent treatments created a series of challenges, given his underlying conditions. The team on the Neuromedicine ICU provided him outstanding care but unfortunately the multiple challenges his condition presented could not be overcome. Joe passed peacefully on Wednesday, October 23rd at 4:57 pm with his loving family and close friends at his side.

Joe was born on July 9, 1965 in the Bronx, NY and spent his childhood in Central Islip, NY. He moved to Syracuse, NY in 1983 to attend Syracuse University, which is where he would reside for the remainder of his life. Joe received his B.A. from Syracuse University in 1987 and his J.D. from the Syracuse University College of Law in 1990. Joe worked for the Onondaga County District Attorney's Office, the City of Syracuse Law Department and Travelers Insurance.

Joe is survived by his wife Jamie, and his three sons, Corey, Joseph and Jacob.

To celebrate his life, calling hours will be held on Friday, November 1, from 4 - 7 pm, with a memorial service on Saturday, November 2, at 10:30 am at Burns-Garfield Funeral Home at 3175 E Genesee St, Syracuse, NY 13224.

In lieu of flowers or financial donations, Jamie, Corey, Joey and Jacob ask that you help others in need by donating blood, registering to become organ donors and encourage everyone in your lives to do the same. In Joe's honor, let's give hope and make a difference for those who are in need.
