Tribute & Message From The Family

Maureen "Momma Mo" Tessier, 62, passed away peacefully on Monday in the loving embrace of her family after a courageous battle with breast cancer. Born to William J. Sr. and Marian Hayes on October 3, 1955, Maureen was one of six siblings and lived her entire life in the Syracuse community. A graduate of Nottingham High School, Maureen attended Central Vocational Tech in Downtown Syracuse where she earned her LPN degree. In 1979 she joined and became a much acclaimed staff member of the St. Joseph's Hospital and Health Center. She was particularly proud of her impact on the lives of babies and new mothers in distress. Except for a ten year absence in the 1980's to raise her four children, she invested over 25 years of her life attending to the needs of mothers and their new born babies on the post-partum floor (5-1) of that fine institution.

During her too short of a life Maureen most enjoyed family gatherings and time spent with close friends including Nancy, Hope, Michele, Chris, Diane and so many others. She always enjoyed her time on any beach most especially Capitola, Ca.. She was proud to complete the arduous Avon 39 Walk to support breast cancer research in 2015 in San Francisco, Ca.. She followed in her parents footsteps by becoming a superb baker of sweet treats. The birds of her backyard sanctuary will miss her greatly.

Maureen was predeceased by her mother and father. She leaves behind her loving and devoted husband Jeffry D. "JD" Tessier Sr.. Her adoring children; sons Jeffry Jr. (Ariana) Tessier, Matthew Tessier, David Tessier and her daughter Caitlin Tessier. She is also survived by her sister Sharon (John) Spridigliozzi, and brothers Dennis Hayes, Paul (Christina) Hayes, William J. "BJ" (Sherry) Hayes Jr., and Brian (Brenda) Hayes.

Calling hours will be on Friday, February 2, 2018 from 4-7 pm at Burns-Garfield "A Life Celebration Home" 3175 East Genesee St. Syracuse. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 am on Saturday, February 3, at All Saints Church, Lancaster Ave, Syracuse. Interment will be in a hillside columbarium at St. Mary's Cemetery, Dewitt. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Maureen's honor to any cancer organization.

It was such a joy and honor to know Mo. I am warmed by the wonderful memories of a shared cocktail hour on the patio at Shadowbrook restaurant in Capitola with Mo, Caitlin, and her most cherished friends last Fall. She was a remarkable force of positivity and laughter. Her spirit was contagious and I'll do my best to carry it forward as she so generously shared it with myself and everyone who knew her.

Mo got our family through so much as our precious granddaughter "Keeley" was born with trisomy 18. We are blessed to have known Mo. May she hold Keeley in her arms again til we can.

Posted by Jody Mullins - New Lebanon, NY   January 30, 2018

We have no words to say how saddened to hear the news. She was one woman we will never forget! In 2010 I was sent to be induced with our first child and our whole life change forever. We had an emergency c-section our baby girl Keeley was born. We were not expecting to get the news she had trisomy 18 and was not expected to make the night... I was sent to my room after receiving the news. I was not about to stay in there to recover I was going if I had to crawl. So I got into a wheelchair and said take me to my baby! Mo was my nurse she understood see knew what this meant! She is the only nurse I can remember taking exceptionally wonderful care of us all!! And all the wonderful nurses in the nicu! But Mo was always there for me if I went back to the room. Everyone who came to see us knew and remember Mo! She was there the day we laid our daughter to rest I hope she is holding her now up in heaven. And she is no longer in pain we will love her always and she will never be forgotten!!!
